The virtual assistant world is growing steadily all over the globe. While escaping the corporate world and office cubicle, remember there are some potential pitfalls to try and avoid when you start your own Virtual Assistant business. Here are three simple hints to think about when working from home.
1. DON’T WORK LATE AND REMEMBER TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF
Many people think working from home is easy but what most don’t realise is that there is no official “closing time” where the security puts on the alarm and you have to get out of the building. The temptation of working late can sometimes happen too often and if you work from home you need to keep to a strict schedule. Working late too many evenings and working too many weekends may cause you to burn out and lose your professional edge.
2. REMEMBER WHO PAYS YOUR BILLS
People who work from home often fall into the trap of helping friends and family through-out the day. Although you want to be able to help those closest to you – try remember at the end of the day it is the paying clients who are going to pay your bills and that it is ok to say no once in a while.
3. KEEP TO YOUR SCHEDULE
Don’t fall into the trap where you are rescheduling phone calls and other appointments in order to put out spot fires while working. Keeping to your schedule is vital; it helps you plan your day efficiently as well as avoid any crises. Make sure you look at all the tasks you still have to do before taking on more work, write down and remind yourself everyday of deadlines and keep your clients up to date (it’s a great way to keep yourself updated and your client’s nerves at ease)
